Serena Williams

As Three times a winner here at the Australian Open,Serena Williams is firmly established on the Tournaments roll of honour. She will surely start as one of the favourites again this year. On her day she is an awesome player who has an incredible amount of power from the back of the court. Well built, but very athletic, Serena covers the court exceptionally well and if fit, she should be the one they have to beat. She has won a total of eight Grand Slam titles and is determined to win another few before leaving the game.

Williams is primarily an attacking baseline player. Her game is built around taking immediate control of rallies with her powerful serve, aggressive return of serve, and forceful groundstrokes that can come from both the forehand and backhand wing.

Her recent Grand Slam form has not been that great, she lost in the quarter final here last year to Jelena Jankovic and was surprisingly beaten in the third round of the French Open in June 2008.
