Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Runner-up last year to Novak Djokovic, Frenchman Jo-Wifried Tsonga, signalled his arrival on the international tennis stage with an astonishing performance, where unseeded he knocked out four seeds en route to the final. His scalps included the top ranked Frenchman, Richard Gasquet and even more significantly, world number two, Rafael Nadal. His main weapon is his two handed backhand which, if on his day, is unerringly accurate. His victory over Nadal was a very one sided straight sets victory, that at the time, was the biggest shock at the Tournament. In fact his form throughout the Tournament was outstanding and many people were surprised that he eventually got beaten in the final.
He followed the Australian Open Betting success with a 4th round performance in the Indian Wells Masters, where Nadal achieved revenge in three tight sets. The great start to the year saw Tsonga rise from obscurity to the top 20 in the world and he is currently 14th. Unfortunately injury has kept him out of recent Tournaments, including the French Open and Wimbledon, but he is expected to be fit and well to go one better at this years event.
