Fernando Gonzalez
Fernando Gonzalez finished runner-up in 2007 and most tennis followers thought that this was the start of bigger things to come. He played such an exciting game in 2007 and was only beaten by an excellent Roger Federer in the final. Unfortunately for Gonzalez and the tennis public alike, his form dipped after that match and he slipped rapidly down the rankings from 7th to 24 in less than a year. However, 2008 saw a resurgence and after two wins and a quarter final at the French Open, it can be said that he is one to watch again this year. He finished 2008 ranked 15 in the world and is a 100/1 in the Australian Open odds to win the title this year
If he can pull it off then it will be a great treat for the spectators as he is one of the most exciting players around and his forehand winners from anywhere on the court are truly mesmeric.
He plays ostensibly a baseline game backed up with accurate serving coupled with a very powerful forehand stroke. He is very athletic and can cover the court better than most and plays with great intensity. His Tennis Grand Slam performances have not been anything like up to par for him, his only final was here two years ago and apart from that he has only reached three other quarter Finals. He will be looking to re-assert himself at this Championship and if he can play anything like his best then he will be a handful for anyone this year. Certainly worth considering as an each way bet in the betting.
